Oldham man sentenced to nine months in jail for sexual communication with Rochdale child

An Oldham man has received nine months’ imprisonment after being charged with one count of sexual communication with a child from Rochdale.

Garry Ware, 56, of Hollinwood, was charged with engaging in sexual communication with a child under the age of 16 between February and August 2018.

He was convicted at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on 1 November 2019 before being sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court on 29 November.

He was sentenced to nine months’ imprisonment suspended 18 months; a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement; 120 hours of unpaid work; an e-tag for three months between 8pm and 6pm.

Ware was also ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £140, given a certificate of conviction for five years, and given an indefinite restraining order and a barring notice.
