Wishaw man caught with indecent images of kids is put on sex offenders register

A Gowkthrapple man has been put on the sex offenders’ register for two years after he was caught with indecent images of children.

Charles Robertson will be supervised closely during that time and must tell police if he intends to travel beyond the local area.

Robertson, 60, of Birkshaw Brae, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court on Thursday.

He admitted possession of indecent material at his former home in Crindledyke Crescent, Newmains, over a nine-year period.

Vish Kathuria, prosecuting, said a separate allegation had been made against Robertson who has no previous convictions.

He was in custody when his flat was searched in August last year.

A computer found in his bedroom was analysed and 14 indecent photos and six videos were recovered.

Mr Kathuria added: “There was a significant number of search terms found within the device.

“These were clearly indicative of the accused seeking out indecent images of children.”

Passing sentence, Sheriff Thomas Millar told Robertson that a criminal justice social work report suggested supervision was “appropriate”.

The sheriff agreed to follow that recommendation and imposed a series of conditions relating to where the accused lives and his internet use.

Robertson will be banned from having unsupervised contact with children under 16 and must inform the police if he intends to travel beyond the court’s jurisdiction.
