No jail for kid images
A Dumfries man who downloaded 40,000 indecent images, including those of children, has avoided a jail sentence.
Sean McGarva told police he was “going through a rough patch” when the extreme pornographic pictures were found on his computer during a search of his home.
The 24-year-old admitted two charges involving images and videos at his house in Monreith Avenue between June 2015 and February 2016.
McGarva appeared at the town’s sheriff court this week where he was placed on the sex offenders’ register for two years.
Despite the court being told the images were “explicit and realistic”, McGarva escaped a prison term and was instead made the subject of a community payback order.
He will be under supervision for two years and a condition was made that certain restrictions will be placed on him using computers.
