Paedophile jailed for sex attack on 11-year-old girl

A paedophile who pulled an 11-year-old girl off a rope swing and sexually assaulted her in a bush has been jailed for eight years.

The youngster was playing in a wooded area in Cheddleton last July when Jonathan Stuart Corfield arrived in his car and pounced.

He grabbed his victim from the swing and dragged her towards a bush where she was sexually assaulted. The girl managed to escape the 39-year-old’s grasp and ran off to tell her family what had happened.

Corfield, of Tittesworth Estate, Blackshaw Moor, was arrested after DNA evidence placed him at the scene. He pleaded guilty to common assault in August last year and to attempted kidnap and sexual assault in November.

He was jailed for eight years – with an extended license for four years – when he appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court today (Thursday, January 23).

A Sexual Harm Prevention Order has been imposed on Corfield indefinitely and he will also be required to sign the Sex Offenders Register for life.
