Paedophile sentenced to 23 years

A paedophile from Billingham has been caged for 23 years for the vile abuse of two children.

Kenneth Lewis carried out attacks on the boy and girl, who were both aged under 14 at the time.

He was handed the lengthy jail term at Wednesday at Newcastle Crown Court following a trial at Durham Crown Court in October.

The 59-year-old, of Knole Road, denied carrying out the sickening historic offences of an indecent assault of a boy and two against a girl throughout the trial.

His victims cannot be identified for legal reasons.

They were praised for their courage by detectives at Cleveland Police who carried out the investigation into Lewis’s crimes.

Following the sentencing, Safeguarding Chief Inspector Debbie Fenny said they were happy with the jail term handed to Lewis.

“He committed some horrific and unforgivable crimes which he continuously denied in court,” she said.

“I would like to personally commend the victims for their bravery for coming forward to police and for their courage throughout the trial as they have been through a terrible ordeal.

“Kenneth will be behind bars for a very long time and I hope this brings some form of comfort to the victims knowing justice has been served.”
