Pensioner, 76, who sexually abused two young girls is jailed for 20 years

A pensioner has been jailed for 20 years for sexually abusing two young girls.

Alan Jones admitted charges of sexual assault on children under 13 as well as charges of possessing indecent images of children.

The 76-year-old, of Rugby Road, Ellesmere Port, appeared from prison via videolink at Caernarfon Crown Court for sentence.

He regularly interrupted the proceedings and was told by the judge to remain quiet.

Jailing him Judge Huw Rees said the abuse was “systematic and prolonged”.

Jones claimed during interviews with police the girls had asked to engage in sexual activity with him.

“It is unbelievable you could harbour such thoughts,” the judge said.

In addition to the jail term Jones was made the subject of a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must sign the Sex Offenders Register.

Prosecutor Simon Rogers said the offending came to light when one of the girls told a school teacher.

Inquiries were made and the second girl said she had been abused by Jones as well.

The indecent images were found on computer equipment seized by police at his Cheshire home.
