Paedophile priest who tried to abuse two-year-old jailed

A paedophile priest who attempted to meet with a two-year-old boy to abuse him has been put behind bars.

Matthew Jolley, of Rhonda Drive in Warrington , was handed a 40 month sentence today (October 25).

The 32-year-old former Widnes Catholic priest had earlier admitted arranging the commission of a child sex offence.

Sick paedophile Jolley used numerous social media platforms to engage in sexualised communications with a man he thought was another paedophile.

In the conversations, which were monitored from September 4 this year, Jolley spoke about his sexual interest in young children.

The ex-priest then arranged to meet with the man with the intention of abusing the man’s two-year-old son.

In reality, Jolley was speaking with an undercover police officer.

On Thursday, September 26, Jolley drove to Hale and met an officer who was undercover as a fellow paedophile.

He told the officer of his plans to abuse the child – at which point he was arrested on suspicion of child sex offences.

Jolley was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for life.
