Man ‘ran around without clothes’ near primary school in Plymouth

A man exposed himself near a Plymouth primary school after suffering a panic attack, a court heard.

A judge told 56-year-old John Anderson that he “ran around without clothes on”.

But Judge Timothy Rose said that his offence was not sexually motivated but happened after “some kind of crisis”.

Anderson exposed his genitals near St Joseph’s RC Primary in Raglan Road in Devonport in broad daylight, Plymouth Crown Court heard.

But he was not targeting any children nor any specific individual.

Jason Beal, for the Crown Prosecution Service, added there was no evidence any of the youngsters saw anything.

Anderson, of nearby Chapel Street, pleaded guilty to indecent exposure at about 10.40am on May 2.

The court heard the father-of-four had a history of mental health problems and had been detained in a psychiatric unit many years ago.

Judge Rose, after a probation report, said: “You have pleaded guilty to one offence of indecent exposure under the Sexual Offences Act.

Judge Rose handed Anderson a six-month community order with ten days of probation’s Rehabilitation Activity Requirement.

The length of the order means he will not have to sign the Sex Offender Register
