Policeman jailed for child sexual abuse images

A commended police officer who searched the internet for indecent images of young boys has been jailed for six months.

Carl Turner (37) resigned from Cambridgeshire police after being questioned about 24 images found on his personal lap top.

Luton Crown Court was told the images had been deleted but were retrieved by experts.

Turner, of Bretton, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to making 24 indecent photos of children.

Prosecutor Jason Wolfe said police went to the probationary officer’s home on July 20 last year. “He was asked if they would find any indecent material on his computer and he said they would not. But analysis did find these images which had been downloaded in December 2005 and January 2006.

“He had searched various web sites like “pre-teen nudes” and “pre- teen boys”.”

Mr Wolfe said the images would no longer have been available for Turner to view without specialist equipment, so he was not charged with possession.

The pictures covered all five categories of seriousness, but the majority fell into the two least serious bands.

Judge Gareth Davies told him: “It is sad to see someone of your ability where you are now, but you were a serving police officer and that must be an aggravating feature.

“The boys appear to be aged between 10 and 12 and there is no way of knowing the awful effects this has on them because no one knows their identities or the extent of their suffering.”

Turner must sign the sex offender register for ten years and not work with children for the next five years.
