Man who preyed on children is jailed

A Fleetwood man who preyed on innocent young children has been jailed for four and a half years.

Raymond Munro, 34, used to babysit his victims – all aged under 10 – before subjecting them to a series of indecent assaults and gross indecency, a judge at Preston Crown Court was told.

He had pleaded guilty at an earlier appearance to three counts of indecent assault and one of exposure against three girls and indecently assaulting a six-year-old boy who has now turned 18.

The hearing descended into chaos after Munro was led to the cells as members of the public tried to reach the dock shouting obscenities at him. They were led out of the court.

Munro, of Windsor Place, committed the offences against the boy more than 12 years ago. The offences against the girls happened in March this year.

Richard Haworth, for the Crown, told the court Munro had befriended the families of the young girls and used to babysit for them. On one occasion at a family party he indecently assaulted a nine-year-old girl while her parents were downstairs.

Munro was arrested by police in the port after the parents of the child came forward to tell them what had happened to their daughter.

The court was also told the former kitchen porter befriended a six-year-old boy whose mother worked at a hotel in Fleetwood and started to sexually abuse him over a period of month

Sentencing Munro, Judge Andrew Blake said: “The lives of four young people have been blackened by your activities.”
