Paedophile Derby teacher admits sexually abusing second underage girl

A paedophile maths teacher at a Derby school who has already confessed to sexually abusing a teenage girl has admitted carrying out sex attacks on a second young victim.

Pervert Toby Yates appeared at Derby Crown Court on Tuesday where he admitted more charges, this time against a different underage girl.

The 31-year-old, of Stenson Fields, taught at Chellaston Academy, where he was arrested in early July and at least one of the charges he has admitted involved him having full sex with the second victim in a classroom there.

On the back of his original guilty pleas, which he is yet to be sentenced for, a second girl has come forward to say she too was sexually abused by Yates.

The girl’s parents were on Tuesday in court to see him plead guilty to a host of charges against their daughter, whose identity is protected by law.

They were supported by a number of other people in the packed public gallery at courtroom one.

Dressed in a blue open-necked shirt and grey trousers, Yates stared nervously forward, not once glancing towards the public gallery during the near 30-minute hearing.

He confirmed his name before pleading guilty to two counts of engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 15, four counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17 when he was abusing a position of trust, causing or inciting sexual activity with a girl aged 13-17, possessing extreme pornographic images and two counts of making an indecent image of a child.

Judge Robert Egbuna adjourned his sentence until March 6 and remanded him into custody.

He said: “I have ordered a psychiatric report as the judge who sentences you will need to know more about you before they do so.”

Prosecutor Jonathan Straw asked the court for the sentencing hearing to take place on a Friday afternoon as the second victim is now at university and wishes to travel back to Derby to be in court to read her own victim impact statement on that day.

In August, Yates pleaded guilty to inciting a girl to engage in sexual activity while he was in a position of trust against a different victim.

He also admitted three counts of making indecent photographs of children.

He had two of category A, the most serious type, two of category B and 83 of category C.

Yates, of Merevale Way, has no previous convictions.
