Man who secretly recorded boys as young as 12 getting changed denies being paedophile
A 36-year-old man has denied being a paedophile despite covertly recording boys as they were getting changed.
Daniel Dar-Nell, of Prince Regent Road, Hounslow, recorded videos of eight boys over a period of several years. The youngest was just 12 at the time he was filmed.
He also admitted making or taking a number of indecent images of children, including some of a 13-year-old boy exposing his erect penis and “briefly masturbating” that he had been sent over Instagram, prosecutor Martin Yale told Guildford Crown Court on Monday (August 12), where the defendant received a suspended prison sentence.
When confronted with what he had done by police officers, Mr Yale said, Dar-Nell acknowledged his behaviour had been “inappropriate” and “awful”, but said he was not a paedophile and had been more interested in the kind of clothes the boys had been wearing than their age.
“He said he didn’t gain sexual gratification from the images and didn’t masturbate over them,” Mr Yale added. “But felt the need to collect them. He said he was sorry for everything and knew it was wrong and was getting the help he needed.”
Passing a suspended sentence of 23 months imprisonment, Judge Jonathan Black noted that some of the victims “exhibited ongoing psychological difficulties” but also recognised the progress Dar-Nell had made in addressing his behaviour and the low risk he posed of re-offending.
The sentence is made up of 21 months imprisonment for the offences of taking and making indecent images of children, and a two-month consecutive sentence for the voyeurism, both suspended for two years.
