Prosecuting, Richard Thompson said: “They put a picture up and were inundated with friend requests.”
However, it was agreed that Taylor was added as a friend by the decoy of Lucy who did tell him she was 14.
Mr Thompson said: “The girl asked if he was bothered about her age and he said he wasn’t and the conversation continued.”
The court heard that at first, Taylor was cautious of talking to the girl but according to Mr Thompson, there was “regular messaging with him trying to move it on but he was experiencing reluctance especially when asked to exchange pictures as he was worried about being caught.”
The court heard that Taylor had told the decoy that he would “do all sorts” to the girl and asked what she would do to him, and said he would buy condoms when the pair met up.
It was also heard that sometimes, Taylor became non-communicative when talking about sex but the pair would have conversations about meeting up.
Taylor had thought he was meeting up with “14-year-old Lucy” at a petrol station in Hessle Road but was apprehended by the couple who in turn called the police.
Mr Thompson said: “He was interviewed by police and said at first he was hacked and went on to admit to sending some messages and said he didn’t send sexual messages or pictures.”
Judge Paul Watson told Taylor he would have to serve a two-year community order, sign a sexual harm prevention order and attend a rehabilitation programme to address his sex offending.
The judge said: “You were taken in by a decoy thinking it was a 14-year-old girl and exchanged messages of a particularly sexual nature although it is right to say in the first place many of those were initiated by the people behind the page.
“It is fair to say you in the first instance experienced reluctance and when encouraged to give pictures you declined.”
He added that a number of sexually explicit messages resulted in an attempt to meet her.
If he does not comply with his instructions to take on rehab and his two-year community order, Taylor will be brought back before the court.
