Victim’s mum speaks out after “violent beast” jailed for abusing two girls in Alexandria

A devastated mum has told how a paedophile turned into a “violent beast” after she confronted him about molesting her daughter.

Trevor Snowdon, 51, was jailed for two-and-a-half years last week for abusing two 14-year-old girls in Alexandria.

He was also fined for punching the mother of one of the victims in an outburst after she confronted him about the abuse.

Speaking exclusively to the Lennox Herald, the mum, who can’t be named for legal reasons, told how the young victims have been “totally destroyed” by the abuse and are struggling to cope in the aftermath.

Depraved Snowdon, who has been placed on the sex offenders register for life, attacked the youngsters as they slept in a house in Alexandria.

The beast preyed on one girl a number of times over the course of a year.

He sexually assaulted the second girl at the same Vale property — as well as at a house in Garelochhead — over more than two years.

He tried to induce one of the girls to have sex with him, entered the other’s bed while she was asleep and removed her night wear, and simulated sex with both of them.

The mother of one girl learned about the abuse and decided to ask Snowdon, who is originally from Wakefield in Yorkshire, if it was true.

She said he turned into a “complete fiend” and launched a violent attack on her, leaving her with blood pouring from her nose and head.

And it was in this moment, she claims, she knew the awful truth about what he had done.

She said: “He turned into a complete madman when I confronted him. His face just went blank and he made me repeat myself and then his face just completely changed and he punched me.

“I was in a terrible state, I was terrified. I tried to get away from him as quickly as possible.

“He was like a violent beast. I knew right away that it was true, he was just a complete fiend.

“There was no doubt in my mind that he did it.”

Throughout a trial a Dumbarton Sheriff Court, Snowdon the attacks, which took place a number of years ago, forcing the two victims to give evidence — something the girl’s mum says they will “never forget”.

He told the court the girls were lying but a jury decided he was the liar and found him guilty of all charges.

The mum added: “I was disgusted that he made those girls stand up there and give evidence against him.

“He should have admitted his guilt from the start but instead he made them stand up there and go back over everything that happened.

“They will never forget that.

“He totally destroyed those girls. This has had a horrible effect on them — and it still does.

“We are still trying to pick up the pieces.”

At Dumbarton Sheriff Court last week, Snowdon was sentenced to 24 months for the attacks on the first girl and 30 months for assaulting the second. The sentences will run together.

He was also ordered to pay a £400 fine for punching his victim’s mother on the head after she confronted him.

The woman added: “I feel like justice has been served. He is behind bars where he belongs and he is on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

“I’m just glad he is off the streets and can’t do what he did to anyone else.

“It has had such an impact on us all and it will always be like this now.

“We are just trying to rebuild our lives now and make sure the girls are okay.

“It’s been a living hell for us but, now it is over, it is a weight off of our shoulders.”
