Scots OAP ‘addicted to watching kids being raped and tortured’ had 500,000 abuse pics

A depraved pensioner who is “addicted” to seeing children being raped has been jailed – after he was caught with nearly half-a-million child sex abuse images.

Pervert James Barr, 72, had a laptop and a total of 92 USB sticks, crammed with 465,000 images of young children being raped and tortured.

He was busted by police at his home in Johnstone, in August last year – with police discovering he had 465,064 child abuse images on the devices.

He appeared in court charged over the find and was released on bail, with special conditions designed to prevent him from accessing more illegal images online.

But when officers arrived at his home in January this year to carry out a bail check they found another laptop and two further USB devices.

The devices were crammed with a further 24,885 images he had downloaded in just six months, taking Barr’s total haul to 489,949.

He admitted his sordid obsession when he appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court last month, pleading guilty to downloading abuse images at his home on various occasions between January 1, 2012, and January 31 this year.

He was caged for more than two years when he returned to the dock today to learn his fate.

He held his hands up over his sordid and worrying obsession when he appeared in the dock at Paisley Sheriff Court last month, pleading guilty to downloading abuse images at his home on various occasions between January 1, 2012, and January 31 this year.

Procurator Fiscal Depute Keri Marshall, prosecuting, told the court that Barr had both still images and films, and that many of the images he had were categorised as being the most serious there is.

The children being abused in the images were mostly females, aged between six-months-old and 16-years-old, but some of the images also featured boys.

As well as videos of young girls being raped, he had files which showed youngsters bound and gagged and being forced to perform sex acts on grown men.

One of the videos he was caught with even showed a boy and a girl, both aged between four and six, having sex with each other.

After hearing that the amount of images Barr had downloaded, and the fact he had continued to do it after being caught initially, was because he has “an addiction to it” Sheriff Seith Ireland called for background reports to be prepared ahead of sentencing.

When Barr returned to the dock, Sheriff Ireland was asked to consider placing him on a community-based disposal, which would allow him to go to counselling, to try and get him to change his ways.

But he ruled prison was the only place the pensioner was going, caging him for 27 months, reduced from three years as he admitted his guilt.

He was also placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register for 10 years.

Perverted pensioner snared with almost 500,000 indecent images of kids

A pervert pensioner has been snared with almost 500,000 indecent images of kids featuring the sexual abuse of children as young as two.

James Barr, 72, who was arrested with a massive cache of vile photos and videos by cops, went on to amass even more child sex files, despite being freed on special conditions of bail restricting his internet use.

Paisley Sheriff Court heard Barr had downloaded a staggering 465,000 files at his flat in Johnstone when he was raided by cops in August last year.

However, when officers carried out a check on his special bail conditions in January 2019, Barr was discovered with another 25,000 sick photos of movies of children being abused by paedophiles.

Yesterday the loner, of Thornbrae in  , appeared at a pre-trial hearing before Sheriff Seith Ireland where he pleaded guilty to charges of permitting or permitting to be taken indecent images of children between 1 January 2012 and 31 January
2019.

Procurator Fiscal depute Keri Marshall said the unusual prosecution involved the rolling up of two cases against Barr.

She said: “Police received information that a device using an Internet Protocol pertaining to the accused’s home address in Johnstone had accessed indecent images of children.

“A warrant was granted and on August 28 police executed the warrant.

“The accused granted police access and confirmed he was the only householder at the address.

“An HP laptop was seized from the living room floor. Preliminary checks confirmed it contained indecent images of children.

“92 USB sticks were seized at various areas of the flat. Preliminary views showed these contained indecent images.”

Barr was arrested, interviewed and charged but later released on bail with special conditions restricting his internet use and preventing any contact with children aged under
16.

The court heard Cyber Crime Unit analysis revealed there were 465,064 indecent images and movies files found on the devices.

The laptop contained 365 class A images, the worst level of classification, 556 class B images and 36,839 class C pictures.

An example of these depicted a girl aged between two and three being raped by an adult male.

Cyber Crime experts discovered 95 movie files, where 34 were class A video files, 16 were class B and 45 were class C.

The 92 USB sticks Barr had collected in his flat contained almost 425,000 photos depicting child abuse, from which 3,008 were class A, 2,959 were class B and the remaining 418,611 were class C.

The fiscal added police were carrying out a check on his special conditions of bail on 31 January this year when they discovered Barr had been at it again and had been busily collecting even more child sex abuse files.

Mr Marshall said: “Police officers entered the living room and saw a black Lenovo laptop, powered on, and open.

“On the laptop was a website showing Child Models, and a statement saying the all the children were over 13.

“Police officers looked at the internet history and then clicked on the link which revealed an indecent image of young female child aged between nine and 10.

“Police immediately closed the imaged and turned the laptop off. They arrested the accused at the time.

“Officers requested a warrant for the accused’s address which was executed at 6.25pm on the same day.”

Cops removed the laptop and a 32 GB USB drive and another 16GB USB drive in the flat.

All three items contained 24,485 indecent photos and movie files.

An example of these images included a girl aged around eight who had been bound hand and foot to a bed .

Video files collected by Barr included footage of girl aged between six and seven being repeatedly sexually abused by a grown man.

The file lasts five minutes.

Sheriff Seith Ireland told Barr: “This a very serious matter. The number of images is very high. You have been given the liberty of bail and you have committed similar serious offences again, which makes this matter very serious again.”

Barr was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and granted bail.

He will discover his fate on 23 August.
