Pervert caught by paedophile hunting team

A pervert has avoided a prison sentence after he groomed what he believed were young girls online

Darren Rye of Kilmarnock appeared at Sheriff Court where he admitted several child sexual offences including:

  • There counts of sexual communication with a child

The court was told that Rye had contacted the online profiles of people he believed were female children aged 12, 13 and 14 years old

Rye sent highly sexualised messages and images in a clear bid to groom the girls for sexual activity

Rye also sent a naked video of himself in the bath to one the girls

However, the children did not exist and were instead adult members of paedophile hunting team ‘Child Protectors Scotland’ who pose online as children to catch sexual predators who target kids

In April 2018, the team identified, and then confronted Rye and questioned him on his internet activity.

A member of the team rang the police and Rye was arrested at the scene.

The Sheriff handed Rye a three community pay back order with a sex offender rehabilitation programme attached

Rye was placed on the sex offenders register for a period of three years
