Pervert caught by paedophile hunting team jailed

A pervert who believed he was grooming a schoolboy for sex has been jailed

Robert Burns, 50 of Methil pleaded guilty in court to several online child grooming offences including:

  • Sexual communication with a child

  • Attempting to meet a child following sexual grooming

The court was told that Burns had contacted the online profile of someone he believed was a 14 year old boy.

Burns sent highly sexualised messages and images in a clear bid to groom the boy for sexual activity, and went on to arrange to meet the boy so he could take him back to his house for sexual activity

However, the child did not exist and was instead an adult member of paedophile hunting team ‘Child Protectors Scotland’ who pose online as children to catch sexual predators who target kids

The team arrived at the meeting place and waited for Burns to turn up.

Once Burns was identified, the team confronted him and questioned him on his internet activity.

A member of the team rang the police and Burns was arrested at the scene.

The Sheriff sentenced to Burns to a nine month prison sentence and told him that he must register as a sex offender for ten years
