Serial sex offender jailed again

A serial sex offender who was jailed for 15 years after abusing four girls and making one of them pregnant has been locked up again after targeting a young girl.

The girl who became pregnant later had an abortion, a court heard.

Brian Lane, 42, (Formerly known as Brian Minshall) admitted sexually assaulting a girl and breaching a sexual offences prevention order between September 1 and December 27.

Robert Stevenson, prosecuting, told Grimsby Crown Court that Lane was jailed for 15 years at Chester Crown Court in November 2004.

This was for 22 offences of rape and indecent assault against four girls between June 1998 and June 2003.

He made one of the girls pregnant and she later had an abortion.

After his release from prison, he changed his original surname.

The sexual offences prevention order was intended to stop him inviting or having any child under 16 into his home or sleeping in the same house.

He was jailed for 18 months in 2016 for breaching notification requirements.

The latest offences involved him breaching the order by having two children under 16 in the same house and intimately touching a girl while she was there.

Lane, of Elsenham Road, Grimsby, later accused the girl – who was under 10 – of being a liar and of knowing exactly what she was doing.

The girl’s father told the court that the incident had seriously affected the girl.

“She doesn’t sleep well at night,” he said.

“It’s a major shock. We are still coming to terms with it.

“We are taking one day at a time, basically.”

Lane was jailed for six years and three months. He will be on extended licence of six years after his release from prison.

He was given an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and a restraining order.

As he left the dock, Lane stared at and pointed at a woman sitting in the public gallery.

He was brought back into court and pretended that he was clicking his dislocated shoulder back into place by stretching his arm.

Judge Thackray branded this explanation “ridiculous” and said that he saw clearly what happened.

Widnes sex offender jailed again for creating fake Facebook profile

A WIDNES man who was jailed for sex attacks on children between the ages of four and 14 has been handed another prison sentence after creating a Facebook account under a false name.

Brian Minshall of Victoria Road appeared at Chester Crown Court on Thursday and the court heard how the 40-year-old still accepts only ‘minimal responsibility’ for his sickening crimes against young girls.

He was jailed in 2004 and released in 2014 but in June of this year police discovered that he had a Facebook account under the name of Brian Anderson and was in contact with a 16-year-old girl.

Prosecuting, Anna Price said: “Minshall said, ‘I didn’t know I had to tell police.’

“He claimed the account had been created by his partner and he used it just to follow football and he used a false name so people from his past couldn’t track him down.

“He hadn’t told police he was using that alias and was arrested on June 20.”

The court heard how Minshall had started a new relationship with a woman but has issues with his only family and only has contact with his sister.

Defending, Gary Lawrenson said: “He also has difficulty reading and writing to such an extent that he came to court yesterday because he got the date wrong on the letter.

“He accepts his responsibility and his obligations but he has prevaricated a bit.

“But he completed little offending behaviour work in prison due to his denial. He constantly failed to acknowledge his behaviour.”

Judge Patrick Thompson, sentencing, said: “It was made clear to you that you were required to notify police for the rest of your life.

“Effectively you didn’t have treatment because you didn’t accept responsibility for your offending. I don’t think you are of the mind set or the commitment to accept your behaviour.

“I have to consider the protection of the public and it’s my duty to protect children from men such as yourself. You are a threat because of your deviant sexual desires.”

Minshall was handed an 18 month jail sentence.

Drunken, violent pervert is jailed

A man branded a ‘pervert’ by a judge has been jailed for 15 years for a series of sex attacks on children.

Brian Stephen Minshall, 28, of Luton Road, Ellesmere Port, was found guilty of 22 counts of rape and one of indecent assault.

The jury at Chester Crown Court heard he committed the offences on the children, who cannot be named, between 1998 and earlier this year.

Minshall had denied all the charges, saying he had no explanation as to why the youngsters might be lying.

But the jury of eight men and four women took just two hours to reach unanimous guilty verdicts on all 23 charges.

Minshall stood impassively in the dock as the verdicts were read out.

Judge Roger Dutton thanked the prosecution and defence barristers for their ‘expertise and sensitivity’ in handling such a difficult case.

He then told Minshall: ‘You have been convicted on the most compelling evidence – and rightly in my view – of the most perverted activity with young children.

‘The word ‘perverted’ has a tendency to be overused but, in this case, no better word could there be.’

Judge Dutton also called Minshall a ‘drunken, violent man’.

The judge added: ‘What the eventual psychological effect on these children will be, heaven only knows.

‘I just pray it is less than I fear it will be.’

He sentenced Minshall to 15 years for each count of rape, to run concurrently, and eight years for the indecent assault, also to run concurrently.

Minshall has to sign the Sex Offenders Register and can neither work with nor have close contact with children for the rest of his life.
