Pervert downloaded more than 1,000 images of child sexual abuse images
A man has avoided jail after downloading hundreds of indecent images of children when he was a teenager.
James Turner downloaded 1,183 illegal images to his computer, Leeds Crown Court heard.
Police searched the home Turner shares with his parents and siblings in Spen Lane Gomersal, Cleckheaton, on February 24, 2017.
They seized computer towers which contained a large number of indecent images of children.
There were 569 images in category A – the most serious category, 180 images in category B and 434 images in category C.
The 20-year-old initially pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images but later made an application to vacate his pleas and stood trial.
Following a trial in February this year, a jury unanimously found him guilty of one count of making indecent images of children and one count of possession of extreme pornography, namely showing two acts of intercourse and oral sex with an animal.
Judge Neil Clark said: “The defendant struck me at trial as a somewhat immature young man who had a considerable amount of growing up yet to do.”
Citing his age, good character, immaturity and the content of a pre-sentence report, the judge sentenced Turner to a two-year community order and ordered him to complete a 30-day rehabilitation activity requirement.
Turner was also made the subject of a five-year sexual harm prevention order.
The court heard Turner has been waiting to start university since his legal proceedings began two years ago.
