Paedophile faked account to groom schoolgirl

A pervert who made a fake account online to groom who he believed was a young girl for sex has been jailed after being caught in a joint paedophile hunting team and police investigation

Re-offender Edwin Roy appeared at Nottingham Crown Court where he admitted 10 counts of sexual abuse including:

  • Seven counts of an adult attempting to engage in sexual communication with a child

  • Three counts of inciting a girl 13-15 to engage in sexual activity (no penetration)

The court was told that already convicted sex offender Edwin Roy made a fake account in the name of his cousin ‘Shane’ who was currently serving a prison sentence for unrelated child sexual offences.

Roy used that fake account to make contact with the online profile of who he believed belonged to an underage schoolgirl. There pervert sent a string of sexually explicit messages with the clear intent of engaging in sexual activity with the child

However, the girl did not exist and was instead an adult member of TGA – The Guardian Angels – paedophile hunting team.

The team handed in their evidence to police, who arrested Roy.

During his first police interview, Roy admitted that he had faked the online account which he used to groom the child.

The judge sentenced Roy to 22 months in prison

He was told that he must register as a sex offender for 10 years and the judge also imposed a 10 year Sexual Harm Prevention Order
