A 52-year-old from Helsby has been convicted after he attempted to meet with an 11-year-old girl for sex.

Adrian McBriar was jailed for 18 months at Chester Crown Court today (Friday, November 16).

McBriar, of Britannia Road, arranged to meet what he thought was an 11-year-old girl with the intention of having sex with her on January 18 this year.

McBriar had also used social media platforms to engage with what he believed to be a 14-year-old girl at around the same time in December 2017.

However, the girls he had been communicating with were actually law enforcement officers.

He was then arrested the day after he went to meet the 11-year-old when officers conducted a warrant at his address.

On searching his home officers recovered McBriar’s phone and laptop.

At his place of work officers found a note containing the postcode of where he would meet the girl along with a ‘kit’ which was described by police as ‘purposefully prepared’ and contained baby wipes, a golf towel, condoms and petroleum jelly.

After he was questioned police officers released McBriar under investigation to gather evidence against him.

Seven months after the initial arrest it was found that McBriar was using social media to communicate with another ‘girl’ for sexual purposes.

McBriar arranged to meet a 13-year-old girl, who was also law enforcement officers working undercover.

The paedophile was arrested again and charged with a number of offences.

McBriar pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to meet a person under the age of 16 for the purpose of sexual gratification, three counts of sexual communication with a child, two counts of making indecent images and two counts of distributing indecent images.

As well as his 18 month prison sentence McBriar was was also ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years and received a 10 year sexual harm prevention order.
