Man pleads guilty to abduction and attempted rape of girl, 18, in city centre lane
A sex attacker pounced on a terrified stranger in the street and told her: “You are beautiful. I need to do this.”
Temesgen Teame of Castlemilk tailed the 18-year-old student and forced her into a lane in Glasgow city centre.
Staff at a nearby bar heard her desperate cries for help as Teame lay on top of the teenager.
The pub workers sprinted after the 23-year-old, who had tried to escape.
But, they managed to pin Teame to the ground and hold him before police arrived.
He now faces a lengthy jail-term after he today pled guilty at the High Court in Glasgow to the abduction and attempted rape of the girl.
The victim had been on a night out with friends in July this year.
CCTV clocked her standing outside the Bloc bar in the city’s Bath Street in the early hours.
Teame was caught “loitering” near her although she did not notice him.
But, prosecutor Martin Richardson said as the girl headed down Bath Street, she was “closely followed” by Teame.
Despite trying to get away, the sex attacker yanked her into nearby St Vincent Lane.
The girl pleaded ‘no’, but was shoved to the ground as Teame began molesting her.
Mr Richardson said: “She screamed and shouted for help. She tried talking to him saying that he did not need to do this.
“She was crying and begging him to stop. Teame said: “You are too beautiful. I really need to do this’.”
As the victim’s screams got louder, sick Teame, of the city’s Castlemilk, then stated: “I want to f*** you.”
He tried to unzip her trousers while the girl continued to struggle.
Mr Richardson: “Throughout the incident she was terrified and believed she was going to be raped.”
The teenager’s screams got the attention of workers at the nearby Stereo pub.
They confronted Teame, who told them: “I was trying to f*** her.”
Two passing police officers were then alerted.
But, Teame threatened the pub workers: “I will f****** remember your faces and I will get you.”
Mr Richardson told the hearing: “He then made off, but was pursued by three members of bar staff.
“He was brought to the ground by them and eventually arrested.”
It is not known how affected the girl was by her ordeal. A victim impact statement was handed to judge Lord Matthews.
The court heard Teame was originally from Eritrea in Africa. He had been in Scotland since 2015.
Teame was remanded in custody pending sentencing in the New Year.
