A man who groomed two underage girls for sex, resulting in the pregnancy of one of them, has been jailed for more than nine years.

The schoolgirls, who were aged 13 and 14 at the time, were flattered by 28-year-old Jensen Jules’ advances.

He used Snapchat and WhatsApp to message one of the girls and gifted his other victim a mobile phone so that they could send each other secret texts.

Leeds Crown Court heard how the youngsters’ lives had been torn apart by the behaviour of Jules, who was described as being “too selfish” to wear a condom when he had sex with them.

Sentencing the Liversedge man to nine-and-half years in custody, Judge Christopher Batty told him:

“These two young girls’ lives have been changed dramatically by their involvement with you.

“They were flattered by your attention and your grooming behaviour so much so that they believed they were in love with you.

“For them it was about love and companionship, for you it was about sexual relations and the consequences of your conduct has caused significant damage to their lives.”

Jules, of Hare Park Close, had pleaded guilty to three charges of having sexual activity with a child.

The court was told that one of Jules’ victims, a 14-year-old girl, fell pregnant following her involvement with him.

In January this year she attended at A&E at Dewsbury and District Hospital suffering from stomach pains.

Christopher Dunn, prosecuting, said: “Later that day she gave birth to a baby boy.

“She wouldn’t say who that father was however she did later say that the defendant was the father.

“He said that he was not the father but a DNA profile stated a 21 million times chance that he was the father rather than an unknown male.”

The court was told that the victim knew that Jules was aged in his 20s and he knew her age because he had seen her in her school uniform.

Mr Dunn said: “He started messaging her on Snapchat and WhatsApp. She felt flattered with him being older and he was nice to her.

“She said it was always him pushing the relationship and they never talked about contraception.

“After they had sex she regretted it but he told her to forget it as it was too late.”

The girl said she didn’t know she was pregnant and was forced to drop out of school because she being bullied with people calling her ‘a slag’.

Mr Dunn said: “She said it’s been really hard getting on with her life. She has no friends and feels isolated.

“She said she never thought she’d be a mother at 15 and have to grow up really quickly.”

The other victim, a 13-year-old girl, said that she slept with Jules when he spent the night at the same address she was staying at.

Again, he knew how old she was because he saw her in uniform, and her mother became concerned when she became disinterested in school and started telling lies.

Jules gave her an iPhone and she refused to give her mother the password, causing further problems between them.

Her mother called police when she was late home one night and officers found her at Jules’ address curled up inside a pantry cupboard.

The girl later confided in her mum that she’d slept with Jules and that he didn’t wear a condom at the time.

Mr Dunn said: “She ( the mum) said that the whole family have been ripped apart and that: “Part of me thinks that it will only click in her head that she’s a victim of sexual abuse when she’s older and has children of her own.

“It scares me that it will not go away, even when he’s sentenced.”

Judge Batty told him that he caused significant damage to his victims, particularly the 14-year-old by being “too selfish to do anything about contraception.”

As well as jailing Jules for nine-and-a-half years he ordered him to sign the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.

Judge Batty also made a sexual harm prevention order banning Jules from having any contact with his victims, including via social media, and having any unsupervised contact with a child aged under 16 or remaining in a household where any underage child is present.

Finally, he made a restraining order barring him from contacting his son.
