Depraved paedophile’s sick phone password showed his obsession with underage girls
A “dangerous” paedophile caught with thousands of indecent images of children had set his mobile phone password to a disgusting reference to his interest in children.
Ian Spencer Mitchell, 58, was already subject to a sexual offences prevention order when police arrested him at Quay House in Swansea .
Having been detained he produced two mobile phones from his pocket – including a Motorola handset which had a screensaver of a girl aged between 12 and 14, a court heard.
Officers asked him for his password so they could access the phone and he revealed it was ‘Little Girl’s ****’.
Once they gained access to the phone they found more than 1,000 illegal images as well as indecent footage.
Analysis of his WhatsApp use found he was heavily involved in sexualised conversation with others in which he pretended to be a girl aged 11 to 13.
He disguised his identity online and kept various different accounts, Swansea Crown Court was told.
A number of search terms for indecent images of children was also found.
Mitchell also provided police with a password for his iCloud account where more than 2,000 illegal images, as well as more than 1,300 prohibited videos, were discovered.
Mitchell, who had been living at the Lodge in the Strand, Swansea, admitted breaching a sexual offences prevention order and also pleaded guilty to three charges of making indecent images of children, possession of one prohibited image, possessing an extreme pornographic image, and two counts of distributing indecent images of children.
The court heard Mitchell has 38 convictions on his record for 114 offences dating back to 1997.
Judge Keith Thomas, sentencing, said: “It’s clear to me you lack moral capacity to be able to control yourself and behave in a way of right-thinking members of society.
“You act like normal rules don’t apply to you.
“Your previous convictions and behaviour are a very worrying and disturbing series of events.
“You have an obsession with young girls and you are unable to control your behaviour. You are a dangerous offender.”
Mitchell was jailed for two years with an extended licence period of three years.
He must obey a sexual offender’s notification requirement and a new sexual offences prevention order has also been made.
