Sex offender caused serious emotional harm to girls

A SEX offender who caused serious emotional harm to two young girls because of the abuse they suffered has been jailed for three-and-a-half years.

Robert Chance, 41, of Ampleforth Grove, west Hull, denied five historical offences of indecent assault involving one girl and another offence of indecency with a second girl.

He was convicted by a jury at Hull Crown Court after a trial.

Judge David Tremberg told a sentencing hearing at Grimsby Crown Court that Chance was involved in intimate sexual behaviour with one of the girls on not fewer than 12 occasions.

The offending was prolonged and sustained by you,” he said.

Chance’s behaviour was “sexually inappropriate” and he was also involved in sexual behaviour with the other girl during a “particularly nasty offence”.

Judge Tremberg told Chance: “You caused significant emotional harm. You well knew what you were doing was seriously wrong.”

Patrick Palmer, mitigating, said Chance suffered a brain haemorrhage in August 2011 and this had left him with short-term memory problems.

Chance was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and was given an indefinite restraining order, banning him from contacting the two girls.
