‘Predatory’ paedophile is jailed

A “predatory” paedophile has received three life sentences for grooming and raping boys of school age.

Gary Mizen, 47, befriended his victims before getting them drunk and abusing them on his canal boat.

In some cases he persuaded boys to play games with him before tying them up and carrying out serious sexual assaults, Southwark Crown Court was told.

Mizen, of Hackney, east London, pleaded guilty to four charges including three counts of rape between 1995 and 1998.

Sexual homicide

A further 10 sexual allegations – including five rapes – were not proceeded with.

Judge Nicholas Loraine-Smith said Mizen would remain a “serious danger” to young men and that his sexual fantasies could eventually end in a “sexual homicide”.

Mizen was given three life sentences for the three rapes and a three-year term for indecent assault.

He will not be eligible for parole for at least six years.

The court heard that Mizen’s fixation with boys stretched back a quarter of a century.

As a 22-year-old policeman, he was jailed for three years for abusing a nine-year-old in Western Australia.

He struck again after his release but fled to the UK before he could be brought to court.

Australian authorities, who still have an outstanding warrant for him, may request his extradition after his release.
