A pervert son of a deacon yesterday admitted preying on schoolgirls at his church.
Vile Craig Downie, 29, targeted the youngsters over a two-year period.
Plumber Downie made lewd remarks to one of the girls before forcing her to kiss him. He lured another young church member into his car before groping her.
Downie, of Paisley, is the son of businesswoman Joyce Downie, who was a deacon of Mosspark Baptist Church in Glasgow, where he carried out his sick crimes in 2005 and 2006.
One victim spoke out after Downie and his mother left and helped set up Crookston Baptist Church in 2009.
Sheriff Lindsay Wood told him: “What you did was wrong and you are required to be punished for that.” Downie, a drummer in the Crookston gospel band, was put on the sex offenders’ register for two years and was ordered to carry out 200 hours of community service.
It is believed minister and former referee Mike McCurry first blew the whistle on Downie, who was banned from the Mosspark church band.
A source said: “People like Downie should not be moving in church circles.”
