Man (24) had stash of child porn images

A YOUNG man who downloaded videos of children as young as 10 being subjected to sex acts has been given a suspended jail sentence.

Colin Tully (24), of Woodview, Lucan, Co Dublin, had 69 computer files, including 44 videos and 15 images depicting young children in sexually explicit poses.

Detective Garda Martin Hogan said that 30 of these video images showed young children aged 10 to 14 years old being subjected to oral or full sex.

Another 14 video images and 15 still images were sexually explicit images of children in the same age range.

Det Garda Hogan said Tully had progressed from viewing child pornography out of curiosity to downloading images so they could be actively viewed at any time. He said that the next step would be interacting with children, but that Tully had never got to that level.

Tully pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possessing child pornography at his home on August 8, 2010.

Det Garda Hogan told Tara Burns, prosecuting, that after being asked to view a sample of the images during garda interviews, Tully said they weren’t child pornography.

John Quirke, defending, said his client was not involved in exchanging or distributing the images or in producing them

Det Garda Hogan agreed with Mr Quirke that there was no suggestion Tully was actively involved in pursuing children and there was no extreme adult porn found.

Mr Quirke said Tully’s father died last month and that Tully blamed himself for this. He said a report showed he was at a low to moderate risk of reoffending. Judge Martin Nolan imposed a suspended sentence of two years’ imprisonment.
