Paedophile jailed

A FORMER Cam man who has refereed children’s football matches for 45 years has been jailed after he was exposed as a paedophile.

When Sydney Moule, 65, spotted a two-year-old child with his 15-year-old brother he performed a lewd act on himself knowing they would see him, magistrates in Stroud were told.

The court sent Moule to prison for five months.

A registered referee with Gloucestershire Football Association, he had been convicted by South Gloucestershire magistrates two weeks ago after denying committing an act of gross indecency towards a child.

Formerly of Cam, but recently of Tuffley, Gloucester, Moule retired after 40 years working for an aviation machinery factory.

He has no children and has always lived alone.

Christine Graham, defending, offered no submissions to the court.

At sentencing Moule also admitted driving while disqualified and without insurance on three occasions in Gloucester between August 28 and September 9 – the day before his trail for gross indecency.

Moule refereed in the Stroud Youth League and the Gloucester Youth League. He also offiocated at under 18 games in the Gloucester Sunday League, the Bristol Premiership and the Stroud League.
