Cinema staff spotted paedophile outside kids’ screening

A judge has praised cinema staff for spotting a paedophile lurking around the toilets during a children’s club.

John Doyle was hanging around Cineworld in Boldon during special screenings for children in November last year.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how the 60-year-old had performed a sex act in front of a 10-year-old boy in the toilets at Morrisons store in Jarrow just the week before.

Doyle was not charged with any offences at the cinema complex, but admitted engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child at the supermarket.

At a hearing yesterday Judge Guy Whitburn sentenced Doyle to nine months’ imprisonment suspended for two years and praised Cineworld staff.

Judge Whitburn banned Doyle, of Edinburgh Road, Jarrow, from having contact with children under a three-year sexual offences prevention order and said he must sign the sex offenders’ register for five years.

Judge Whitburn said any repeat behaviour would result in Doyle, who has no previous convictions, being sent to jail.
