Locked up for sexual activity with girl

A 19-YEAR-OLD has been locked up for having a sexual relationship with a schoolgirl after being previously cautioned for a similar offence.

Christopher Knight started a relationship with the 14-year-old after meeting her in a Swadlincote park.

Derby Crown Court heard a month later police gave Knight a caution for engaging in sexual activity with another girl under 16.

Judge David Pugsley yesterday sentenced Knight to 12 months in a young offenders’ institution, saying he did not consider him a “predatory paedophile” but said it had been “immature lust”.

He said: “There’s not an element of exploitation or coercion but the point of this legislation is to protect young people from themselves.”

Knight, of Sorrell Drive, Woodville, admitted three charges of sexual activity with a child and was told he must sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

He must also abide by a sexual offenders’ order prohibiting him entering amusement arcades and schools.
