Man is jailed for indecent assaults

A man has been jailed after carrying out a series of indecent assaults on a young girl.

Tony Mayle was told by a Chelmsford Crown Court judge on Friday courts had a duty to protect vulnerable young people from behaviour like his.

Mayle, 38, was jailed for four years and told to stay on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely after he admitted three charges of indecent assault on the girl.

The court heard Mayle, from Petunia Crescent, Springfield, Chelmsford, carried out the assaults over an eight-month period on her and they continued until she was 13.

After his arrest, the court heard Mayle attempted to kill himself.

David Howells, mitigating, said Mayle had shown remorse and he now accepted he needed help.
