Man jailed for abuse clip

A MAN who downloaded “horrific” images of children from the internet was jailed for a year at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.

District judge Miriam Shelvey heard that Steven Eckersall’s computer had contained a 14-minute clip of a young child being abused.

Eckersall, 28, of Greystoke Avenue, Timperley, pleaded guilty to five specimen counts of making and possessing indecent photographs with intent to distribute.

The judge told him: “Children wouldn’t be abused in this way but for people like you who are prepared to pay for such images for their own self gratification.”

Eckersall was ordered to sign the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

The court heard that a total of 44 indecent images were found after police seized his home computer.

Some of the images, described as ‘horrific’, had been copied on to a CD but there was no evidence they had been provided for anybody else.

David Hallam, defending, said Eckersall, a clerical clerk with a law firm, had never previously been in trouble and was very ashamed.
