A SEX offender from Stretford who abused two children has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Delivery driver Stanley Lyons, aged 64 – who pleaded guilty to five counts of indecent assault and two counts of gross indecency – was sentenced at Minshull Street Crown Court last Thursday, October 11.
Lyons has also been placed on the sex offenders register for life and is prevented from having any unsupervised contact with children.
The court heard that the offences took place against two girls, who were aged just eight and 12 at the time the offences began in 1978.
Lyons was arrested after the two women contacted the police in April.
Det Con Julia Knowles, from Trafford police’s child protection unit, said: “He was extremely manipulative and used to threaten one of the victims that she’d be sent to a children’s home’ if she ever told anyone.
“It’s taken great courage by both of them to come forward to the police, but all the while they have been driven by the conviction and fear that he could have contact with other children and do the same to them.”
She added: “Both victims were sexually abused by this man over a period of about four years but neither knew about the others abuse until 2005.
“During his interviews with the police Lyons made no admission of guilt and waited until the matter went to court.
“I just hope his conviction brings some closure for the women and they can now carry on with their lives.”
