Man, 60, jailed for abusing girls

A man who sexually abused two young girls more than 30 years ago in Ayrshire has been jailed for six years.

Robert Montgomery, 60, from Kilmarnock, was convicted of the sustained abuse of the girls between 1978 and 1983.

The High Court in Glasgow heard how he started the abuse when the girls were aged two and five years old.

Temporary judge John Beckett QC ordered Montgomery to be monitored for three years on his release from jail and placed on the sex offenders’ register.

‘Depraved abuse’

Jailing him, the judge said Montgomery had abused the position of trust he had been given by the parents of the victims.

“You performed a variety of sexual abuse and used acute emotional threats on your victims,” the judge added.

“It is necessary to protect the public from you. I am informed you are accessed as presenting a high risk of harm and one report says you are a high risk of sexually re-offending.

“In sentencing you I am taking into account the depravity and repetition of the abuse.”
