21 months in jail for child worker

A PERVERTED pre-school worker who took indecent photos of young girls and admitted kissing one on the mouth, has been jailed for 21 months.

Paul Baldock, 44, of New Road, Lake, admitted assaulting a girl aged under 13 by kissing her, seven counts of making an indecent image of a child and one of the theft of a pair of girl’s pants between January 1, 2006, and February 15, 2008.

Baldock hung his head as Portsmouth Crown Court heard he had befriended girls while he ran a holiday club in the West Wight and at pre-school group, Shalfleet Little Explorers.

After the allegations were made, Baldock was suspended from the Shalfleet Little Explorers and subsequently resigned.

Baldock posed the girls in clothes he had chosen before photographing them and sent one of them a Valentine card, said Paul Dugdale prosecuting.

For Baldock, Anthony Bailey, said Baldock’s family had been ruined and both he and his wife were bankrupt.

He said: “This man clearly has serious problems. He has never been in prison before. Prison fills him with horror.”

However, Judge Ian Pearson said that only an immediate custodial sentence was appropriate.

He said: “This was a gross breach of trust. You were in a position of responsibility and you abused that trust.”

Baldock was jailed for 21 months and placed on the sex offenders’ register for ten years. He was barred indefinitely from working with children.
