MUSICIAN JAILED OVER CHILD PORN

A MUSICIAN in one of the Island’s best-known function bands has been jailed for three months on child pornography charges.

China Grove singer and guitarist Graham Jones was sentenced at Portsmouth Crown Court after being found guilty of 21 charges of possessing child porn.

Jones, 37, of St John’s Wood Road, Ryde, a long-time musician with the band, denied the offences but was found guilty on October 15 after a trial lasting two and-a-half days. He appeared for sentence last Friday.

He was jailed for three months on each of the 21 charges, the sentences to run concurrently, and was placed on the sex offenders’ register for seven years.

The band’s management said Jones had been replaced in China Grove, a group that has carved out a big reputation in the world of corporate entertainment and is rated one of the top showbands in the country.

Jones, one of four Islanders in the band, had been with China Grove since it was formed ten years ago. Before that he was in Fatal Attraction.

China Grove began as a small holiday camp group, moved into the cruising and then corporate entertainment market playing 100 gigs a year all over the world including Pakistan, Beirut, Cannes and Dubai.
