A PERVERT was driven from his home by a mob of vigilante neighbours who trashed his motor.
Ex-squaddie Douglas McNaught, 61, had to be rushed away under police protection and rehoused.
Trouble is said to have flared when unfounded claims were made against McNaught who was caged for six years in 1993 after admitting using lewd, indecent and libidinous practices and behaviour towards a young girl.
A source in Prestonfield, Edinburgh told how police earlier removed McNaught when his car was vandalised by neighbours who “heard about his history”.
He said: “McNaught was brought back from the sex offenders’ unit by officers days later, but neighbours came back and started banging on his windows.
“As soon as the row started, two plainclothes officers got out of an unmarked car.
“The disturbance got so bad they had to call for back-up.
“People aren’t happy about a sex offender living here.”
Last night a Lothian and Borders Police spokesman said: “After concern for someone’s safety in the Prestonfield area, we assisted in re-housing a member of the public.”
