“Controlling and manipulative” Liverpool paedophile jailed for 14 years
PENSIONER was branded a “controlling and manipulative paedophile” by a judge as he was jailed for 14 years.
Peter Fitzpatrick, 67, was convicted in March by a jury of four counts of rape and nine of indecent assault.
Yesterday he appeared at Liverpool Crown Court to receive his sentence.
The bespectacled pensioner, in a suit with a buttoned-up shirt, sat in the glass-fronted dock with a security guard by his side as prosecutor Simon Christie told the court of the allegations that led to Fitzpatrick’s convictions.
Mr Christie said the complainant – who cannot be named for legal reasons – was just nine at the time the abuse started and she suffered in silence until she was 13.
The allegations were first made in 2003 when the girl and her mother went to Merseyside police.
She said that Fitzpatrick had started by exposing himself to her but went on to touch and then eventually rape her.
In one incident, which Judge Brian Lewis said was “particularly sinister”, Fitzpatrick took the girl to a house where other men were abusing other young girls.
Mr Christie said when the allegations were made in 2003, Fitzpatrick fled Liverpool, buying himself a one way ticket to France.
He was on the police wanted list until April 2008 when he began claiming a state pension and was tracked to his new life in Southampton.
John Weate, defending, said the only mitigation he could put forward on his client’s behalf was that there had been no previous conviction or allegations of this type and no suggestion of any further offences since.
