Teen detained under Mental Health Act for rape of young boy

A teenager convicted of raping a young boy has been detained under the Mental Health Act.

Nicholas McMahon, 18, formerly of Fairfolds, Watford, was sentenced at St Albans’ Crown Court for two counts of rape of a child under the age of 13.

Judge John Plumstead had released McMahon to probation for reports before the sentence was handed down on Friday.

On the recommendation of mental health experts, Judge Plumstead imposed the order, which is aimed at treating McMahon to prevent him carrying out similar offences in the future.

When McMahon is released, which will be decided by doctors, he will be disqualified from working with children for life and must sign on the sex offenders’ register indefinitely.
