Pervert ex-lorry driver in court
A retired lorry driver from Bath who asked a teenage girl to show him her breasts because he had never seen a woman naked has been ordered to sign the Sex Offenders’ Register.
Michael Matthews invited the girl to his Blagdon Park home with her boyfriend.
However his victim, who is under the age of 16 and cannot be identified for legal reasons, was so shocked and offended by his lewd suggestion that she left and later told police what had happened.
Matthews, aged 67, was arrested and admitted a charge of causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity.
He was given a three-year community order with a supervision order and a requirement to attend the Thames Valley Sex Offender programme.
The defendant was also made subject to an indefinite Sex Offences Prevention Order and will be on the Sex Offenders’ Register for five years.
He was also ordered to pay £250 towards prosecution costs.
Lynne Matthews, prosecuting at Bristol Crown Court, told how Matthews committed the sex offence on June 1, 2007.
She said the defendant admitted he had asked the girl’s boyfriend to arrange for the teenager to expose her breasts as he had never seen a naked female.
The girl said she was at the defendant’s home when he asked to see her body and offered her money, however Matthews denied offering her cash.
“She was offended and shocked and left the house at the first opportunity,” said Mrs Matthews.
She said the girl later decided to inform the police.
Charles Row, defending, said the defendant had had no further contact with his victim.
He said Matthews had been assaulted by a member of the girl’s boyfriend’s family and the attack had been dealt with by police.
